Santa Clause

Today in class (by class, I mean Mr. Malone's 5th period) we were speaking of the existence of Santa Clause. We all unanimously agreed that this "Santa Clause" does not exist, however I would like to pose that question.

Does Santa Clause exist? How do you know?

I would like to first answer to my own question. Yes, I believe Santa Clause exists. Now, Santa does not exist in a physical sense, for a Fat man living on a glacier in the North Pole who has enslaved elves to work for him seems rather odd (besides, his workshop's probably half way underwater by now). However, I feel that Santa as an idea exists. "Santa" is the force of good in the world. "Santa" is hope, "Santa" is when a person suprises you and doesn't screw you over. "Santa" is the symbol of well-meaningness. As cold (Eh? North Pole=cold? Funny? Discuss.) as I may seem at some points, and as pessimistic as I may feel, I still believe there's hope in the world. I still believe that there is good out there in the world. I think that Santa exists as a cumulative identity of all humans, for we all the the ability to do good (whether you want to believe it or not, Hitler could have done good with his life). Thus, Yes Santa Clause exists, as cliche as it may seem, in the hearts of us all. How do I know this? Pragmatic: It's useful for me to believe that people can still do good, and that there are good people out there (otherwise I'd either be incredibly depressed, or I would have committed suicide years ago). Corespondence: This is my theory that, as stupid and as heartless as we humans are, we can still be good, and we can still prevent our own destruction. The other one: I can't remember this...so 20. Anyhoo, there's some ideas. Discuss. Pontificate.

Totally with you on this one, Vinny (correct me if I'm spelling your name wrong). Ideals are lasting even if only through a mythical symbol. The need to protect innocence or present good will when there is none, bring joy, experience happiness and fulfillment...That's what I constantly seek and take delight in in this world.

Oh yes--Santa being from the cold. He's a symbol of warmth in a frosty world. And why is he always depicted as a red-robed fat man with elves and reindeer? Hmm...

Actually, Mr Scummy, They've made three now. So it would be The Santa Clause 3, this one involves Jack Frost becomming Santa Clause with hilarious results. Anyhoo, I think that the claim brought up by the Phalmalama depends on who you are. If you are an American child between the ages of 0-12 then yes, Santa Claus (I think it doesn't have an "E", thank Mr. Scummy. Disney is perpetuating incorrect splelling)existing is knowlege (and, yes, this knowledge can be discredited sometime between there). For, k=pjtb. This belief [Santa exists] is properly justified [as you have shown, Phamalama], and because it fits into each of the truth tests then it is true. Thus, "Santa Claus exists" is true, to that select group. However this is true as ptolemy was true (the idea that the earth revolves around the sun). Many people believe it (in this case millions of young children who have been brainwashed with materialistic ideals) to be true, however it is not true. Given the facts we recieve later in life, i.e.: The North pole is a series of glaciers, elves do not scientifically exist (and the politically correct term is "dwarf", I believe), and it is seemingly improbable to travel around the world and deliver presents (or coal) to every single house in the world in one single night. It then becomes a child lie that we perpetuate out of spite for our parents, thinking "Those B***ards, if they wanted to lie to me, then I'll lie to my children: "Hey kids! There's a fat man in a red suit that gives you presents. Heh Heh, can't wait to see the look on their faces when they find out it's all a lie. Nothing like good ol' fashion American family sadism". Well, that's my rant.
