Ok guys, here's a question I've wanted to ask for a LONG time. The famous quote
"Cogito, ergo sum"- "I think, therefore I am"
or the alternate quote
"Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum"-"I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am"
So is this true. I think this topic came up in our lunch class today, are we all really in some sort of generated universe, is everything just one REALLY long dream? What exists? can a table exist, if it dosen't think?

Well I'd say this is really vague to begin with, but my opinion would have to be that to "think" would in itself prove all of existence, regardless of what can conceive thought or not.
To think would is then to exist, and to exist is for all else to exist as well. Whether you consider it a dream or not is up to you; in my opinion it's irrelevant.
Agreed. For me, the fact that I have the capacity to think of my own existence confirms its reality to me. To doubt the only realm that I can think I exist in is pointless.
To argue the semantics of the question, "I think, therefore I am" mentions one qualification of existence, but doesn't state that thinking is the ONLY one. As perceiving individuals, thought it is relevant to ourselves as proof our own existence. But our cognition, therefore our very existence, is subjective, so isn't it possible, perhaps likely, that there is existence outside of our realm of comprehension? However, I agree that it is strong evidence for the existence of the table that I can perceive it.
