Aliens!!!

Alright folks, it's time to bring up the inevitable... do aliens exist? what are you're justifications, and lets all try to use out those truth tests. Now there is a lot of evidence on both sides saying yes or no, a simple visit to youtube will give you all the info you need to make an educated guess.

Now as for me, I guess I fell that there has to be something else out there with some intelligence. It would be unlikely for there not to be. How could it be that in the BILLIONS and billions of planets in the universe that our planet was the only one to sustain life, it just dosen't work.

i have always thought this was such a weird topic. i definitely agree with vincent that it would be kind of ridiculous to say that in all of space, which is bigger than anyone can really imagine, earth is the only place with life. i just don't really buy into the whole UFO alien abduction thing. I mean i guess you could relate it to catch and release. You catch a fish and let it go, i bet none of its friends believe that it was hooked by "aliens," so who knows...it's a crazy world.

For me, I think none of this is believable until some hard evidence is found. I don't mean any of this 'namby-pamby' "ooh I saw an alien" evidence that you could get from just about any sci-fi addict that has watched Men In Black so many times he can't even remember his phone number. I cannot watch a movie such as 'Signs' without laughing uncontrollable at a tin-foil hat on Mel Gibson's head while simultaneously trying to grasp the humorous crop circles that are trying to convey some sort of message. Maybe they do exist, alien-addicts will always find a tid-bit of information and claim that aliens exist regardless of the source of validity. Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I sort of talked about this in one of the posts on the thread "what do you believe" in that I really believe that anything is possible. How can we ever know that Roswell wasn't real? (I'm not saying that it was) If you believe in anything other than creationism than it seems that if we are here its definatley likely that there are other planets that evolved just like ours. It is possible too that there are other sentient creatures on other planets, and it is also possible that they have been around a little bit longer and have evolved to be smarter than we are (or maybe a little less). There really isn't any way to prove that there aren't "aliens" out there, and if there are there is plenty of proof, but whether the proof is real or not seems like something we are pretty reluctant to accept.
The way I see it, it is as if every grain of sand on earth represented a planet, what are the odds that there is only one of them out of more than could be counted in a hundred years that can support life(if it represented a planet)? I think it's really unlikely that we are alone.

Really, it comes down to what do you define as an alien. Does it mean a bacteria found on Pluto, or other so called 'sentient' life forms? I believe that it would be statistically impossible for there to be no other life on another planet anywhere in the universe. However, while I am entertained by things like Star Trek, I doubt that there are many races of aliens that evolved in a similar manner to humans. Another point I would like to bring up in response to Britanny, if one did not believe in evolution, is it not also possible that whoever intelligently designed humans could have used their higher intelligence to create other beings on another planet? However, ultimately, it does not matter if we were designed or evolved, it is practically impossible that in all the vast infinite reaches of space, there is no other life. Anybody want to follow up?

Now, you all have given your opinions, but i want you guys to take a look at it in a way that someone in a different community of knowers would look at it. in other words, take a look at it from the viewpoint of a hardcore creationist or a hardcore "alien believer"

Like many of you, I would like to see some hard, empirical evidence that aliens exist. Since the beginning of recorded history, there has never been any evidence we could prove to be 'alien', as all photos of 'UFOs' and aliens were proven to be hoaxes. Looking at this from a biological standpoint, it is highly unlikely alien lifeforms would look anything like what we imagine them to be. From evolving in our special ecosystem and atmosphere, we as humans developed eyes, noses and symmetrical limbs to adapt to our environment. Popular views of aliens have shown lifeforms that look very much like humans, albeit with a bigger head and grey. Although since the Universe has proven itself to be large to say the least, the chance of there being aliens are near, if not, 100%, but they just look completely different than what we can imagine them to be

I'm sure there are alternate life forms out there, in the great cosmos. But I also believe that they are so few and far between that we have no chance of ever meeting them. So perhaps we should just get used to all the differences of all the people on this planet, and embrace that as a frontier to conquer, to protect, than to hurl efforts into vast, empty, unresponsive space.
